- In 1888 there were fewer than a dozen golfers in the United States ; by 1975, more than fourteen million Americans were playing on more than 11,000 golf courses in all parts of the country.
- In 1953, forty-three lawn articles appeared in popular magazines, followed by forty-five in 1955. The record number for any previous year was twenty in 1928.
